What are Invisalign aligners made of?
Invisalign aligners are made of a smooth, clear thermoplastic material custom made to fit perfectly over your teeth.
How does Invisalign work?
The Invisalign aligners gradually shift your teeth into their proper alignment through a course of swapping out aligners every two weeks. Each new set will gradually move your teeth.
How long does treatment take?
Depending on the severity of your case, treatment can take anywhere from 6 months up to 2 years, but typically most treatment is completed in about a year.
How often do I wear the aligners?
Aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours a day, only to be removed for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth.
Will treatment be painful?
Most patients do not experience any pain or discomfort. If they do, it is usually only on the first day of changing into a new aligner set, and it is only slight discomfort.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
Most likely not. Some patients feel or hear a little whistle when they begin treatment for the first couple days, but after getting used to their aligners this sensation disappears as the aligners become a part of you.
Are there food restrictions?
No. You can eat whatever you want, as long as you remove your aligners beforehand and brush afterwards.
Can I drink with aligners in?
You can drink with your aligners in; however, Dr. Kelly recommends that her patients take them out to drink sugary drinks or to rinse out their mouth and aligners soon after. Otherwise, sugar can be trapped on the teeth and on the aligners and this can lead to problems.
How often do I need to visit Dr. Kelly Tabacchi at studioSMILE Orthodontics?
Dr. Kelly will want to see you every 8 to 12 weeks to check on your treatment to make sure you are progressing on schedule.
